Infant Swim Resource- Week 1
We decide to put the boys in Infant Swim Resource, or ISR, this summer. We have known about and considered this program in the past, but because it is so intense, expensive, and we didn't have a pool, we ruled it out. (I say intense because of the time commitment-10 minute lessons M-F for 4 to 6 weeks- as well as having to monitor/ record diet, diapers, sleep, etc throughout). However, we now have a pool, and a dare-devil almost 2 year old who jumps in the water and is fearless! So we reconsidered it! Then, I saw a great deal for IRS at the Christmas Affair Silent Auction, and bid on it and 'won' two weeks of this intense swim training! I really had only Evan in mind when I bid, but after having LJ in Emler Swim School for over a year and watching him barely progress (and often not want to be there), we decided that lessons for both of them might be the best idea for us. The children learn basic survival swim skills, i.e. how to roll over onto their back to float/ breath, correct swim form (eyes down/ leg placement), and how to get to the side.
I was nervous on the first day because I was told many children cry for the first couple weeks and don't seem enjoy the lesson, but both boys did great! We have our lessons at 8:30 in the morning, so 2 of the days I woke Evan up at 8 am and put him straight into the car to go! This worked well because they can't eat 2 hrs before the lesson. Friday the boys woke up early, and Evan was not happy that he was not given breakfast before going! He was hungry!
Day 1: LJ waiting for his turn on the first day.

Evan loves swimming and got right in with Ms. Tiffany! She was impressed with his skill level the first day, and more impressed that he was so happy the whole time!
Day 3: Already seeing improvements!! Evan is actually swimming for a few seconds, and LJ is floating on his back all by himself for about 30 seconds! Wow!!
Thursday got rained out, so Friday (Day 4), Barrett joined us for the lesson and got in the pool with the boys so he could learn how to properly teach them. Tiffany did not want us swimming with them until she could tell us the correct cues, what to focus on, what to not allow, etc! We have already learned a lot (and realize that we are teaching some things that are not great for them!).
LJ swimming - great form with eyes down and very focused- between Barrett and Tiffany.

I am already really glad we decided to do this!! I will update more as their lessons continue and am excited to have the boys swimming better!
