Food Bank KidsGiving 2016
We had a great morning at Kids-Giving Day at the Central Texas Food Bank! We invited friends and had a great time while our kids got hands on experiences learning about this awesome organization.
They had several stations for the kids to visit and learn. We started in the garden room where we got to see fresh vegetables they grew as well as do a coloring project. LJ was so happy to find Rex, Ren, and Ben busy at work, and joined them immediately!!
Evan and Kate...
Then we got to sit on their lifter machine- perfect photo opportunity as well!!
Kids got to stand on the HUGE scale! How much do all these kids weigh....
Plus an Uncle B!
Then we got to go in all the cold rooms... they went from a little cold to uncomfortably FREEZING! Brrrrr!!!
The kids got stickers for completing each activity!
And probably the kids' favorite, they got to spend some time sorting!! This is actually one of the things we/ adults do to volunteer here, so I was happy they got the experience of seeing what we do when we volunteer.
They did a pretty good job, too!!
Charley busy sorting! I felt so bad we left Ellie at home (not knowing what to expect). Next year we will bring her for sure!
Josie was very helpful too!
Then we headed to the kitchen. The food bank's brand new facility is so awesome because it has this huge kitchen and the ability to cook/ freeze food so it can last longer/ get distributed longer. They will also soon have a garden to further the mission! The kids got a little demonstration and then got to taste some roasted vegetables here.
Evan loved the food! Hah!
Sticker time!
Brinkley and Beckham came late, so we headed back to the lift one more time to show them!
A picture under this super cool thing with all the precious kids who were able to join us! The word 'Nourishing' is made of all painted green cans!
A pretty fun morning overall, and this was their first ever attempt at doing this event. Looking forward to next year, and bringing more friends to check it out!
