Blessing of the Backpacks, Aug 2016
The main church we have been attending since our move, Live Oak Presbyterian, had a wonderful event the Sunday before anyone's school started. It was called "Blessing of the Backpacks". All kids (and teachers/ anyone else that wanted) brought their backpacks to church, and at the end of the sermon, all the kids came in to hear a great speech from the pastor and then we prayed over the backpacks and kids. Also, all the kids got a key chain to put on or in their bags, that simply had 'Jeremiah 29:11' on it! Love the verse and the message from pastor.
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Ellie loves wearing her bag when ever she can! Walking into the church...
Kids lined up and entering the main room after the sermon to get prayed over. Only boys' classes came in (Ellie's was too little to understand), and they were so excited to come in 'where we have church'!
LJ spotted us!
And then Evan did- big wave at mom and dad!!!
Wonderful speech to our kids focused on being a blessing to other people, and finding ways to do this. I loved it, and hope boys got to absorb at least some of what he was saying!
