Parent-Child Dedication

We had a very special Sunday this week, as we decided to finally do a Parent - Child Dedication with our kids at our church, Austin Stone. This dedication is the same idea of a Catholic baptism, where we stand in front of the congregation and dedicate our family to following the Lord. We also turned in very specific commitments to our children, focusing on how we will follow the Lord in the areas of community, personal and rhythms.

Below are our commitments:

Community:
We will be the primary and perpetual link to Jesus. /we will be sensitive to positive and appropriate inputs, from people in their lives to content.
Personal:
We commit to going to scripture for problems big and small and to maintain perspective.
Rhythms:
We commit to praying intentionally rather than ritually. We will do our best knowing and appreciating our best only comes with God's help.

Ellie all dressed up in her precious outfit from Flory! She looked so cute!

Family shot as we were waiting for service to begin. We had to get there an hour early for prayer time and a quick run through of the morning.
Me and my precious little boys!

We did the dedication along side our dear friends the Cooke family, who we meet with weekly (and have been for almost 2 years now) for our Missional Community. It is so special to have a church family with them!! They have two boys, Benjamin and James. Benjamin and Evan were both just over a year old when we started our MC gatherings!

A quick video of us on stage:

And a little longer video (for anyone interested) of our campus pastor, Mark Moody, preaching a little about why we do Parent-Child Dedication.

After the prayer, they presented us with a beautifully framed copy of the commitments Barrett and I made, a book on parenting your children in Christ, a kid's bible, and a letter for each kid from our pastor that is to be given to them the day they proclaim their faith in Jesus (I think it says that the church has been praying for them... how special!!!). Here is the framed commitments:

We didn't tell many people about the dedication as we decided to do it a little late, but we did have a few VERY special people there! First, it was really neat to have the Cookes doing the dedication with us! Also, my dear friend Sang was able to be there as well as our wonderful neighbors, Julie and Rene. Julie hosts a weekly bible study that I have been going to for about 1.5 years, and one other friend (Nancy) from the bible study also came! I can't tell you how very very much it meant to have these people there!!! Thanks so much!!

Then the McDonnells and Cookes joined us for lunch at Austin Pizza to celebrate. What a special day- thanks SO MUCH for being there!!!

The kids! I went to see what they were doing up there, and they informed me that they were watching movie! Haha! Imaginative little things!

The sweet girls and their fun head flare! Haha!
