Halloween 2015
Friday, October 30 was a VERY rainy day so we spent the morning playing inside, and we finally got to make our trick-or-treat bags with glow-in-the-dark paint! The boys got very into it, and I love what they did! The bags actually ended up looking really cool in the dark too!
LJ teaching Evan how to squeeze hard enough to get the paint out!
Evan was more into the big globs! He would squeeze too much paint and then just spread it around. He did attempt his name twice (both of which I loved), and then destroyed them with a paint brush! Oh Evan!!!
Happy little artists!!
LJ somehow got the idea to make high globs of paint and then blow them down for a splattered effect. He got really into it and even grabbed a straw to do it better!
I painted a canvas with their names (well LJ did his name) to see how well / if the paint really glows... it does!!!
I also did most of Ellie's bag, but we do have two of her handprints on there! I hope my kids end up better artists than me! Hah!
LJ did everything on his bag- I didn't touch it!
I added Evan's name in black paint since he messed up the ones he did! Otherwise, this is all his creation!
Halloween Day:
Evan and Ellie both slept very late on Halloween morning, and when they both woke up around 8:45 am, they both had fevers -99.2 and 99.8 degrees. OH NO! LJ had a 12 hour fever-only bug earlier in the week, so we were hoping that the others didn't get it -especially on Halloween! No such luck!!! We decided that as long as they were acting ok, we would still trick-or-treat. But we would stay in our neighborhood so that we could avoid close contact with other kids. They were both a little extra needy / sensitive that day (Ellie more than Evan), but not too bad! Ellie actually started signing 'sleep' at around 10:20, so we put her back in bed at just after 11 am .... and she slept over 4 hours!
LJ didn't get to wear his costume to Martial Arts because we thought it would get in his way... but then other kids were wearing theirs so he was a little sad! So he got to put it on as soon as he got home and left it on as we went to run errands! I was on a mission to find pumpkins to carve.... He was so happy and cute!!
Evan went too - but I went around disinfecting every single thing he touched after he touched since he woke up with a fever that morning! He didn't want to wear Batman, but he did have an interesting outfit picked out as well (pumpkin shirt, jersey over it, rolled pants and Batman rain boots).
During rest time, LJ found a fun surprise on our front porch! He was so excited, but decided he wanted to wait to see what all it was until Evan was awake and could look with him (since there was one for each of them). I thought that was so sweet!! And sure enough, as soon as Evan got up, LJ said, "Evan, we have a surprise to go find!!" And off they went!
Thank you so much McDonnells!!!! We love you guys!! What a nice way to make the boys' day when we can't be around other kids!!!
And then we attempted to carve our pumpkins!!! This was actually my first time ever (that I can remember) to carve a pumpkin all by myself! We actually watched a youtube video first to make sure we had the technique down, and then gave it a shot! The boys were were into it, and we had fun!
LJ was trying to draw the face he wanted me to carve, but kept 'messing up' and scratching it out! So he had big scribbles all over his pumpkin! SO cute! I love the hand on his hip as he attempts the face below!
Final result!! Definitely a LOT of room for improvement, but not too awful for my first attempt!!
And then it was time to get dressed...
Here's our little Wonder woman!
She was still not quite herself... it was sad, but I was secretly enjoying all my extra hugs and snuggles!
Ellie basically ate the entire time! She had taken an over 4 hour nap, and slept through lunch altogether (and had an early dinner when she woke up), so I think she was making up for it!
Few family shots before we started trick-or-treating...
We planned to be a family of super heroes....about a month ago, the whole family's outfits were decided and here! LJ wanted to be Flash (so we asked Queenie and Grandad for the costume for his birthday), Evan wanted to be Batman, Gigi bought Ellie a Wonder woman dress, and LJ picked Barrett and my outfits out on Amazon. He wanted us both to be Green Lantern. I don't know why we couldn't be different things, or why Green Lantern, but he was sure and insistent! So we agreed!
And then in true Evan form, about an hour before we left, he decided he HAD to be a football player and NOT Batman. I think watching football all day at the house got him too excited about football! Thankfully, I had LJ's old football player costume (from when he was 2 and Evan was the football!), so we made that work!
The ring is a big deal with Green Lantern ... Barrett and I were really into our rings!
First house.... No one home but candy out on porch for kids to take a piece!
Still eating!! Haha!
Headed home... We probably knocked on about 15 doors total, and of those, four houses had people home that handed out candy (and boys got to say 'trick-or-treat'), a few houses had baskets of candy out even though no one was home, and several houses had nothing! We also didn't see another trick-or-treater the entire time we were out. It was really sad, but luckily, I don't really thing the boys realized it! Barrett came up with the idea of watching a Halloween show (we remembered watching Charlie Brown as kids so thought we'd try that one), and we told them it would be more fun to pass out candy to other kids! Then only 2 other kids came to our house. What a sad year!!
Wonder woman walking to me.... She is getting better (up to about 6-10 steps pretty consistently now!).
Kids waiting to give out candy....
Evan telling Ellie all about the different types of candy!
A few selfies with my babies!
I love how Ellie's hair stays standing straight up even when I take her bows out! She has so much body in her hair ;)
This precious skeleton was asleep 1 minute after I put her in her bed at 8 pm (and slept hard for 14 hours- but woke up fever free and back to herself-yay!)!
Not ready to get out of costume yet! The boys each got to pick one piece of candy to have while we watched a little Charley Brown and the Great Pumpkin.
Favorite pics from the night:
Photo credit to LJ! I Love that he can take such great pics now!
And here is a quick flash-back to 3 years ago when LJ was the football player and Evan was the football!!
