Bye-bye Paci!

I don't mention it a lot, but I will now... LJ LOVES his pacifier. He is only allowed to have it in his bed (although he often tries to sneak it out), and we have tried a few methods to ween him of it. For example, we did the 'poking holes' so it doesn't pacify as well, and kept cutting it down to a nub... He still held on tight to this nub- and it was gross! So we tried a kind with a lid... still liked it too much, so about a week ago, I cut a slit in it, only to find him crying 15 minutes into nap time. I went in, calmed him down, and when I put him back in bed, he said (so sad), "My paci is broken!"  So I found a little baby's paci which he seemed ok with... He doesn't really use it that much... mostly just when he is putting himself to sleep. But, a few times now, he has woken us up in the middle of the night screaming, and when we go in to his room, he just wants his paci (which is usually tangled up in his covers or fallen under the bed). We have been saying that it is pretty ridiculous that our almost 3 year old is waking us up to find his paci under the bed! But I had decided not to worry too much about it for now... I guess Barrett heard me complain about it a few too many times...

BUT on Saturday morning, LJ came down the stairs so excited holding his paci, and said, "Mama, I am throwing my paci away!" And HE DID!!!  On Friday night, Barrett and LJ apparently had a discussion about how it was time to get rid of his paci... I wasn't there for it, and when I ask about what was said, Barrett just says "It's between a father and his son!" So I guess I will never know!

LJ has now not had- or asked about- his paci since Saturday! He got up a little early a few mornings and is obviously having a little harder time putting himself to sleep / back to sleep; but overall, he has done great! We are so proud of him!!
