Good-bye Mabel
We had to say good bye to our sweet old brown lab, Mabel.
She has had a rough two months. She had severe bronchitis and starting coughing horribly and losing weight in October. We had over a month of medications and steroids. At the end she wasn't coughing but was still losing weight (we used to always be amazed by how fat she remained despite lots of exercise- and she had recently turned into just a bone)... And then a few days ago she started drooling and kept losing her footing and falling. We think maybe she had a stroke. So Barrett took her into the vet today, and they found a tumor the size of a baseball in her abdomen, and she was not longer able to chew well (eating was her favorite)... so at somewhere around 14 years old, we decided she deserved peace.
She was without question the most patient and wonderful dog - especially with LJ these last 2+ years. He would ride her, hugs her, be rough with her, put hats on her- you name it... and she just sat patiently and took it- never even growled!
We will miss our sweet old dog, and hope she is happy and free now- running, playing fetch, swimming, surrounded by all the 'biddies' she wants, and eating too much! Love you Mabel!
