Our First SKi Trip
We finally got to go on our first ski trip with the kids!! As our family Christmas gift, Capí and Gigi said they would take us to Deer Valley, Utah for a week of skiing during Spring Break! We have been talking about/ wanting to do this for years, and we were so excited to finally have it happening!
We decided to go a week earlier than Spring Break, since there were no waitlists on Ski School for the kids.
As our trip approached, and with the outbreak of the Corona Virus quickly becoming a huge issue, we did discuss if this trip should happen. But we decided the facts that we were flying private, going to a small private airport, staying alone in a condo, and at a smaller resort with all our ski gear on... this may be one of the few trips we would still do! It was crazy to be there though, as news of the virus outbreak in our country got worse and worse.
And the timing ended up being crazy! The last day of our trip, as we headed off the mountain, we started to hear that all the ski resorts were shutting down- effective the following morning! I can't believe we got all 4 planned days in and had this amazing escape- just in time! Now to hunker down, isolate, and try to flatten the curve!
Tuesday morning, March 10, Capí and Gigi picked us up in their plane, and we headed to Park City. We really only got settled in the first day by going to the grocery store and Deer Valley to get the kids all ready for their first morning of Ski School on Wednesday.
Deer Valley is SO amazing with all the accommodations - like lockers to store your stuff!!
Wednesday morning- ready for ski school!!
Dropped the boys on the snow for their ski school!
So excited for their first day!
We sat and watched them get started...
Then Capí and I took off! I have never been skiing with him before, and we had a BLAST! I hadn't been skiiing in 19 years and Capí hadn't been in 13! So we had some warm-up runs, but we both quickly were feeling pretty good!!
Water break!
I love Capí!
Had dinner in town after a great day of skiing... love all the bear statues!
Day 2! Gigi and I dropped the kids at Ski School and then hit the mountain!
My first ski teacher- and still my favorite!!!!
I love my mama!!!!
Ellie spotted in Ski school- in lift line!
Ellie doing great! We keep catching glimpses of her coming down!
Snuck in a picture with my girl!
Then I met up with Capi for an afternoon of skiing!! Did I mention how AWESOME the place we are staying is!!!! Capi is standing outside our backdoor/ porch! A lift (with access to what I decided were some of my favorite slopes) is right outside our back porch!!
Going up the lift- man in yellow is in front of our condo!
Today is AMAZING!!! Almost hot, a little icy in parts, but just a gorgeous day!!
Can't get enough of the views! Capi and I having so much fun exploring!
Olympics were here!!
Day 3!! The world seemed to change last night, and we are a little nervous! Gigi and I dropped kids off, and then decided to go shop a little for supplies (meds, etc) and get organized!
Boys had the same instructor every day and loved her!!!
No toilet paper in Park City either! So weird!
View from out of living room!
Barrett took a lesson today- this is only his second time to ski! He made HUGE progress, and then at the end of the day, he grabbed the boys and did some skiing! He said he couldn't believe how far they had come and how confident they were!
Waiting for our ride- photo ops! Snow is starting to come down pretty steady... they needed it (and I am excited!!!)
The last day- it was COLD, snowing, and perfect snow!!! Yay!!! What an amazing last day!!
Picture of Gigi and I going up the lift from inside our condo living room!!!
End of day 4... I grabbed the boys from ski school and we hit the lift! We just have about 30 mins of ski time left in the day, so we had to go fast! This is my first time skiing with them- so SO EXCITING for me!!
I can't believe how far they have come in just 4 days- all blues today, so we headed back to one of their favorite blues!
Evan took a wrong turn down a BLACK!!! AHHHH!!! I was so scared! He went about 15 ft down and then fell to his bottom- right before the huge bumps!!! I had to leave LJ with my skis, slide on my butt to Evan, take of his skis, and we marched back up the steep 15 feet sideways! Reunited (LJ actually above us in the pic below)! That was so scary!!!
Then we grabbed Ellie and went again!!! They are AWESOME skiiers!!!! I can't believe it! A little slice of heaven skiing all blues with my babies!!!
Can't thank Capí and Gigi enough for this absolutely amazing trip!!!!
