Bringing in 2014- Port Aransas Style

Sitting around talking to my friends one day, we decided we should try to spend New Years Eve together somewhere.  Since we had LJ, Barrett and I have not been with anyone else to bring in the new year. So we decided if we all rented a house together - where monitors would all work- would be a lot of fun. Then after remembering the fun we had in Port Aransas last Memorial Day, we thought maybe we should look into going there (but in just one big house instead of several little condos. We found a perfect house and booked it with the Robinsons (Eagle, Laura, Eagle Jr, and Locke) and McDonnells (Mark, Sang, Ben, and Kate).

We headed down to the the beach in Port Aransas, TX to bring in the new year with some wonderful friends!!

All the light switches in the house we stayed in were toddle level! Ugh- can't tell you how many times we had to tell them to stop turning the lights off! (Evan turning off light below).
Got unpacked, ate a good dinner, and got the kids to bed. Everyone went down really well- yay! And then we got to have a toast to our vacation!

First morning- woke up and got right to coloring. Evan loves laying on his tummy to color now!
The kids were all so excited to go to the beach so despite the coooold temperature, we headed there after breakfast! Kids didn't seem to mind the chill... but we didn't last more than about half an hour!

Post naps (everyone took one!), we got the New Years gear out and tried for some fun pictures...

After dinner, we attempted a quick explanation of 'bringing in the new year' and toasting. Then we did a countdown and toast with the 3 older boys. It was really cute! They had either orange juice or milk in their glasses (and LJ actually had both as he kept asking for more!). They loved toasting and did it for a while! So cute!
Here is a quick video of our countdown for them:

And then the grown ups got to play!
Dads - still got it! haha!!

We started the day with a somewhat new tradition: A Polar Plunge! Barrett did a polar plunge into Barton Springs with several of our friends last year, but Evan was still young and needed to be held so I skipped it. Since we had a pool at the house we rented, we decided this would be the best place to attempt the plunge. Mark, Sang, Barrett and I did it... BRRRRrrrrrrrr!!!

Pre-plunge.... Dry and nervous!!
Getting ready ...
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Post-plunge!! Actually feeling pretty good!!

After the plunge, we headed back to the beach with all the kids. It was a little warmer today, so we stayed a little longer!

The 'littles': Locke, Evan, Kate!

Barrett teaching LJ how to dig big holes with the shovel....

After playing in the sand for a while, Evan asked to go into Aunt Funny's stroller with Locke and get a snack (by pointing at it, signing please, and then signing eat!).
Our trip dog- Angel!! So happy she was there- completed the family feel for us! And she was such a total beach dog!
Boys will be boys...

"HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014"

Dads running the beach with the kiddos!
Barrett, Kate, and LJ- too cute!!

Cousins!
The little diggers!

We quickly realized it is much easier to pry 3 year olds off a beach by saying we are going somewhere else fun... so we did! We went to a huge shark where the kids could run through the mouth/ throat!! Hah!

The one and only shot of everyone on the trip (thank you random runner for offering to take it!)
LJ sliding down the esophagus!

Back to the warmth for a snack!

Thursday, Jan 2:
We thought we would try for one last trip to the beach before the drive home, but it was just too cold! So instead we went to a candy store (my boys' first time) and then back to the shark mouth for a little more running!

LJ lived up to the phrase "kid in a candy store"!  He kept walking around saying every candy he was looking at was HIS FAVORITE! He was so cute!
Evan was into it as well!
About to have his first bite! Happy little monkey!

Then off to the shark mouth for a little more running before getting on the road.

On the road- happy little men!
The boys sharing a gummy snake!

And the boys had their first ride on the ferry! It was short but still fun!!

Bye bye Port A- had a blast and hope to be back soon!!!!
