Happy birthday Grandad and Aunt Funny

Image
On Grandad's actual birthday, January 29, we got to go to Queenie and Grandad's house to celebrate Grandad and Laura- and eat some amazing home-made chicken fried steak (thanks Queenie)! Laura trying to get me not to take her picture! Birthday pair!! LJ celebrating! Blowing out candles... Being silly opening presents! Evan entertained himself by playing in the fire place Laura opening a VERY special gift from Queenie- a print that hung in Barrett's bathroom growing up! Laura had been looking for it for a long time, and Queenie found it! She got one for our boys too! Laura and Barrett teared up- so very special!! Thank you Queenie!! We love it, and it will be hanging in the boys' bathroom soon (just like it hung it their dads!). Evan and Kelly warming up by the fire. The little Locke-ster! LJ still celebrating! And then on Laura's actual birthday, February 1st, Eagle put together a wonderful surprise for her (espec...

Hockey game and Gala

Image
Barrett and I have been so blessed to be able to go on dates most weeks, and while we love going to the movie (and have made it a few times this month), we also love getting to do other things too! This month we got to go to a Stars Hockey game- in a box with food and drinks! Very fun (and different from on the ice where we have sat before!). And we got all dressed up and went to the Dell Children's Storybook Gala. We hadn't been to a gala / formal event like this in 2 years, so it was very nice to get all fancied-up! We even decided to get a car at the last minute (stressing out over finding taxis and wanting to enjoy wine)- which made it feel even more special! All dressed up, in a nice car.... and dixie cups with wine!! I love it! Enjoying the downtown view from the gala at the Austin Convention Center ... Barrett's favorite 'prom pose' shots of us! The McDonnells and Robinsons were with us (Sang and Laura are the ones who inspired me ...

LJ's 1st Dental Cleaning

Image
LJ went to the dentist when he was almost a year and a half with 6 teeth and 2 molars. The dentist said everything looked normal and I did not really need to bring him back until he had all his teeth and was old enough to sit still through a cleaning. Since LJ got teeth very late and they are fairly well spaced, this was the first time I brought him back for a cleaning (almost 2 years later!). I told him weeks before our appointment that we would be going to see the dentist, that she would clean his teeth for him, and if he was well behaved he would get a surprise from a treasure chest after his cleaning. He repeated this to me nightly and seemed excited to go.  This was the best tool I have had yet for him to be cooperative and brush his teeth really well every night (he is wonderful some nights and fights it a little others!)! On the morning of our appointment, Austin basically shut down due to icy conditions, but our appointment was not until 11:30 am, so it was not canceled...

Happy Birthday Granny

Image
We had our annual visit to Houston for Granny's birthday.  It was a beautiful day, and we had a lovely visit! So glad we got to go and see everyone.  Missing a few kids, but this is the majority of the birthday bunch! Father and son- looking so much alike!! Love!  Evan working hard on throwing a ball (that was as big as him) around the yard!  Trying to get Aunt Julie involved!  LJ find a ball to throw to the dog  Evan hugging on dad and smiling at Mimi (Aunt Nancy).  LJ rolling on the ball... and then watching how quickly the clouds are moving! Evan got up on this bench all by himself, then turned around and smiled! So proud of himself- it was really cute!  So I had to try to get LJ in on the moment- and he co-operated!   Time for lunch- Granny let the boys dig into a fruit bouquet she had received for her birthday- they loved it!! Thanks Granny (and hope we didn't eat too much!).  ...
